Sean and Ian Kirk are born at 0752 and 0753 AM today!   They are healthy and doing just fine.  Scott and Melanie are proud as can be.   In this photo, IAN is on the left at 5 lbs 0 oz, and Sean is on the right at 5 lbs 11oz.

09 January 2001

Melanie has been cramping a little and is feeling some pain around her right ligament.  She went to work anyway.  Scott is on his way to Kingsville to do his flying duty with the Naval Reserves until Friday 12 January.   He is only 2 1/2 hours drive away and will have his cell phone on all the time.   The number is (210) 279-5475.  This will probably be the last report until Scott gets back on Friday.

08 January 2001

Melanie had her weekly visit to the OBGYN today and he said that she is 2.5 cm dilated and 70% effaced.  He says that she could go into labor any time now, but he wanted to go ahead and schedule her for a C-section on Monday, 15 January at 0730 (0530 check-in).  Dr. Honore still thinks that she has only 1 placenta and therefore does not recommend we try a natural birth because the second twin could go into fetal distress if the placenta separates too early.  Twins are normally induced at 37 weeks because the placenta is working overtime and could start to deteriorate prematurely.

We picked up Teryn and Stefan (our friends from South Africa) from the Greyhound Bus station downtown San Antonio at 1:15 Central Time.   Several friends from the HHG showed up at Taco Flats and then spent the rest of the time visiting at our house.  They are staying with us and are sleeping in the baby room until Lori and Keith move into their new house next week and can provide a spare bedroom for them.

07 January 2001

Melanie told me this morning that she may have passed part of her "Plug" but everything else is fine.  We spent the morning taking down the Christmas Lights off the rooftop of the house.  We had a little thunder, lightning and rain on the horizon to help motivate us.  Last night we went to a Spurs Basketball game with Christy, Jamie and the gang.  They played the Detroit Pistons (Spurs Won!).  We then met up with Mike and Maggie at Cafe Solei after the game.  Today we are off to run some more errands (Babies R Us, Deck the Walls, Eckerds for film and batteries, grocery shopping, etc..)

06 January 2001

Melanie is still feeling fine.  Babies are squirming around a bit.  Last night we went to see what was probably our last movie:   "What women want" starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.  Melanie only had to go to the bathroom twice during the movie.  Today we have to run a bunch of errands and continue working on the babies room.  Scott has to take down the Christmas Tree and Lights.  Ugh..

05 January 2001

Surprisingly Melanie feels much better today.   Still no real signs of contractions.  She has occasional ligament pains and B. H. contractions, but that is about it.  Don't know how much longer she will be able to hold out.  The cabinet guys showed up today and finished the installation of our new bathroom cabinets!  Now we're just waiting on the countertop, sinks, plumbing and electrical.  Can't wait to be able to use our bathroom again.

04 January 2001

Melanie was feeling some cramping and stomach aches.   She said she was feeling "weird".  Everyone has noticed that she is carrying the babies a little lower now.  The doctor thinks we will have the babies within a week.  As a precaution, she has already packed our hospital bags and made a list of last-minute items to bring.  We got our new dishwasher installed today and deleted one more item off the checklist.  Groovy Baby, Yeah!!

December 2000:

Dr. Honore has told us that as of last Monday, 18 Dec 2000, Melanie is now fully effaced and he doesn't think she will be able to hold out much longer.  He claims that she will probably deliver no later than 15 Jan 2001.  We are just hoping for another 2-3 weeks.  Our goal is to get to 36 weeks.

November 2000:

The San Antonio Happy Hour Gang is throwing us a baby shower on the 11th of November.  Details are provided on the left.  Anyone is welcome to attend, just  R.S.V.P. with Heather McQuiddy at (210) 657-7668 as requested.

October 2000:

The babies are kicking now!  Scott felt them for the first time on the 23rd of October.

August - September 2000:

The Amnioscentesis was on 24 August.  We had our check up on Wednesday, September 20th and the results are in.  Dr. Higby has assured us that everything is looking good.  We have monozygotic twin boys!  Need Proof?

Thanks Uncle Glen and Aunt Barabara!  The Noah's Ark blankets are a perfect theme for our twins.  Hey where's the catapult?.  How did Noah maintain air superiority? Fly Navy!
